It is possible to cope with a special needs child and have your marriage thrive … really! Author, psychologist and presenter Dr. Laura Marshak, is coming to Jackson to show you how. In her book Married with Special-Needs Children: A Couples Guide to Keeping Connected, Dr. Marshak provides a wealth of realistic suggestions for strengthening your relationship. It’s this wisdom, gained from her personal and professional experiences with hundreds of families, she’ll share at MMJ’s Marriage Pep Talk event.
Although a child’s disability does have a large impact on a marriage, Dr. Marshak offers hope and examples of how a child’s disabilities can amplify the good times in your relationship. After her presentation, and a short break, MMJ’s Shelby Raines will join Dr. Marshak on the stage for some Q&As submitted by the audience. There will be real stories, real laughter and real learning you can enjoy together.
This session is an ideal for any couple raising a child with special needs from a to z, such as: attention and learning issues, mental or physical disabilities, autism spectrum disorders, and many others. The diagnoses may differ greatly but the information at this MMJ Marriage Pep Talk is applicable to nearly every couple who is parenting a special needs child.
Laura E. Marshak, Ph.D. and her husband have raised three sons, including one with special needs. She is professor of counseling at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. She is also founding partner and psychologist at North Hills Psychological Services, where she works with many parents of children with disabilities.
The evening event begins at 6:30 pm with coffee and dessert. Beer/wine/pop are available for purchase.
Sponsored in part by Commonwealth Commerce Center.
